Kayo Dot / Bloody Panda - Split HRR002
In an exclusive release London's Holy Roar Records have brought together two of the US's most innovative and interesting bands in a three track, half-hour 12”. Kayo Dot already have two albums under their belt and have been stirring up the avant-garde, post-rock and doom circles for some time now. New York's Bloody Panda, first heard by HRR after picking up their self-released EP in the city's Other Records, bring something altogether more dark but in no way less boundary-pushing or genre-defying.
Boston's Kayo Dot, with albums on John Zorn’s Tzadik and Robotic Empire, cover a vast and mostly indefinable ground, with everything from orchestrated epic jazz and post-rock to noise and doom thrown into the mix. Their 11 minute track was recorded for, and is excusive to, this release, displaying the band's utterly astonishing musicianship and ambition.
New York's Bloody Panda contribute two tracks (19 minutes) that combine funeral sludge with female chanting and Eastern influences to create something utterly menacing but at the same time completely enthralling. Again - exclusive recordings.
Kayo Dot have now signed to Hydra Head and Bloody Panda have now signed to Level Plane Records.
This special, limited edition (1000 copies) release comes on orange/grey marbled vinyl in a gatefold sleeve, with incredible artwork by Toby Driver of Kayo Dot.
